We offer 3 levels of Instruction : Mary McCall takes on beginners in a group setting to teach them how to properly groom, handle, and tack up the horse. The remainder of the lesson gets the equestrians in the saddle and starts them off learning how to walk, trot, and canter safely. Beginner lessons are $25 / hour. When Mary is ready to move them on, the riders become part of the TAPS Training and Showing program and are started by Kelly Larkin-Winnicki. Kelly has been riding and training with Tracy Percival Forman for 16 years and has the best knowledge of what Tracy wants for her riders. As students progress and decide to lease or purchase a horse they will move up to Tracy's program. INTERSCHOLASTIC RIDING TEAM Shady Maple Stables is the proud home of the : TAPS Equestrian Team of CNY This team was started in 2002, and continues to be competitive. In 2005 the TAPS team was 5th in the nation at the IEA National Horse Show which was held at Garrison Forest School, in Maryland. To be on the team you must be a dedicated rider that is willing to sign a contract for the team and commit to the program. Are you one of those committed riders? If so, there may be a spot for you! We have regular scheduled team practices, which is a 2 hour session for $25 / session. In a regular practice the riders switch horses frequently, testing their skills on unfamiliar horses both over fences and on the flat, including the various tests that can be asked of the riders.
